From Clay to Courage: The Inspiring Journey of Dr. Zita Flora Diamouangana Mpissi

Dr. DIAMOUANGANA MPISSI Zita Flora during the defense of  the master’s degree of her very first student .

Strong, persevering and as beautiful as she is intelligent, she is a brave lady whose professional web is beautifully woven in the field of research in materials chemistry, more precisely the chemistry of clays. A field that she embraces to follow her research instinct that has been forged since childhood. Something that gradually takes shape from obtaining her baccalaureate series D until obtaining her Doctorate / PhD in mineral chemistry. With her research work whose theme focused on the Characterization of the clay soil of the locality of Loukoléla (Congo-Brazzaville): Application in the adsorption of organic matter and in the development of modified electrodes she has proven that the characterization of this clay has shown its use. Indeed, the populations of the locality of Loukoléla used clay in the building industry by making terracotta bricks and during cooking there were always breakages of the bricks, with this study, she has showed that this clay is not suitable for making bricks but rather very essential in the therapeutic and environmental fields precisely in the adsorption of pollutants because this clay is predominantly montmorillonite .

To reach the top of her art, the Researcher had to overcome mountains, illustrated by the financial burdens linked to the realization of her research project as well as her responsibilities as a wife and mother.

The major challenge she would like to take on is to show the world that women are capable of working in all scientific fields, of bringing solutions to indigenous populations because these populations are the holders of the raw material according to her. A challenge that she is already putting into practice by training her very first student thanks to the funding she obtained during the « Women and Science » prize 2023 edition of the Congolese Foundation for Medical Research in partnership with the Bayer Foundation in Germany.

Her advice to girls who want to follow in her footsteps is not to give up on her journey despite the obstacles.
